Solar Permit Guide: Requirements & Permitting
Grid connection approval: Required for grid-tied systems to ensure safe interconnection with existing electrical infrastructure. This approval
While the number of PV systems interconnected to the grid has increased significantly over the last decade, only recently have PV systems been installed in major metropolitan areas and tied to electric distribution secondary network systems (networks).

Simplified Single Line Diagram Template for Paired Storage AC Coupled Systems (Only for use with projects with solar PV inverter nameplate ratings less than 30 kW and battery energy storage inverter nameplate ratings less than 10 kW).
For example, some utilities do not allow an interconnection if the electricity generated by the solar system exceeds the annual electric use by the site. (See Local Utility Solar Policies for more detailed information.)
Each local utility likely has different processes, policies, and turnaround times for reviewing applications for solar PV systems, so it is recommended that builders (or their solar contractors) conduct research on interconnection requirements prior to planning for the installation.
