Latvenergo Issues Tender for Battery Energy
Latvenergo, a prominent public electricity utility in Latvia, has invited a tender for the procurement of Battery Energy Storage Systems
On November 1 Latvia's largest wind energy producer Utilitas Wind opened the first utility-scale battery energy storage battery system in Latvia with a total power of 10 MW and capacity of 20 MWh in Targale, Ventspils region.
"Future projects will be carefully evaluated to strategically deploy storage capacities across the Baltic states in order to maximise the benefits for the security of supply and customers," the company added, giving a broad hint that it will also be looking to place BESS assets in Estonia and Lithuania.
Its BESS assets will sit in a portfolio alongside hydro power plants (installed capacity ~1550 MW), combined heat and power plants (~1050 MW) and solar and wind capacities under development.
