2023 LITHIUM BATTERY SHIPPING GUIDE
Except for prototype batteries, each lithium cell or battery (small, medium or fully regulated) must be of the type proven to meet the criteria in part III, sub-section 38.3 of the UN Manual of Tests
These shipments are forbidden to be transported as cargo on passenger aircraft. (§ 172.101). When shipped by cargo aircraft, lithium ion cells and batteries must be ofered at a state of charge not exceeding 30 percent of their rated capacity. 2 batteries. n/a. Only one package of lithium cells and batteries may be placed in an overpack.
Damaged lithium batteries are forbidden from air transport. See page 06 of this guide for information on damaged batteries. For passenger aircraft, the package may not exceed 5 kg net quantity (column 9 of the HMT - § 172.101). "Net quantity" refers to the weight of the batteries, not packaging materials or the equipment.
