Vehicle to Grid | Electric Vehicle Hub | National Grid
For customers who want to see the energy generated from their solar photovoltaic (PV) system used on-site instead of being exported to the grid, V2G provides an alternative to stationary
V2X systems use a combination of hardware and software, including vehicle controllers, inverters, and communication protocols, to enable the bi-directional flow of power and data between EVs and external systems.
One major benefit of V2X technology is its potential to stabilize the grid by providing additional flexibility and balancing services to better manage peak demand periods and reduce the need for costly and polluting peaker plants and thus allow for the integration of more renewable energy sources (Ravi and Aziz, 2022).
This broader concept is often called Vehicle to Everything (V2X) and includes Vehicle to Load (V2L), Vehicle to Building (V2B) and Vehicle to Grid (V2G). Vehicle to Load can involve smaller loads like charging a cell phone but with newer EVs, it can be something larger like a table saw or welder for a contractor.
EV drivers can use the platform to detect and navigate to the closest charging session, to manage their charging history and make the most of V2X services (e.g., demand response services that reduce prices whenever the renewables reach their peak).
