Thurplus commissions 3MW battery storage unit in
Municipal utility Thurplus has commissioned a 3MW/3MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in its Canton of Thurgau, Switzerland.

Axpo commissioned its BESS in February this year while utility Thurplus commissioned a 3MW system in September last year. But Switzerland was the location for one of the largest energy storage projects commissioned in recent years, a 20GWh pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) unit which started operations in June 2022 in the Canton of Valais.

However, Switzerland has adopted similar rules on batteries. The Ordinance on the Reduction of Risks linked to Chemical Products (ORRChem) is aligned with Batteries Directive 2006/66/EC. SCIEX is a member of the WEEE compliance compliance scheme SWICO in Switzerland.
