Indonesia Unveils 100 GW Solar Initiative With Massive 320GWh
Operated by the village cooperative Merah Putih, these solar-plus-storage mini grids aim to provide affordable, reliable power while reducing dependence on costly diesel
“Currently, there is no large-scale energy storage system operational in Indonesia. The development of small-scale energy storage technology is being led by the private sector, followed by state utility companies.

IESR notes that Indonesia is still in the early stages of energy storage adoption and stresses the need for a comprehensive strategy to accelerate the development of an energy storage ecosystem.
The combined cost for PV modules and inverters in Indonesia is about 0.4 USD/Wp, compared to 0.3 USD/Wp in China and 0.5 USD/Wp in Japan for recently established projects (ref. 28). The historical cost reductions have also been seen in the announced solar PV projects.
